Keep Lee County Beautiful Helps Edison and Ford Winter Estates Restore Gardens
FORT MYERS, Fla. (June 27, 2023) — Edison and Ford Winter Estates has received a grant through Keep Lee County Beautiful (KLCB) to replace shrubs and trees along the historic Ford property line that were lost due to Hurricane Ian’s winds and storm surge. Planting the trees will begin on July 8.
Florida native trees Gumbo Limbo (Bursera simaruba), Satin Leaf (Chrysophyllum oliviforme), Dahoon Holly (Ilex cassine, var. ‘Nativa’), and Walter’s Viburnum (Viburnum obovatum) are being provided by local nurseries Duke Farms and J&C Nursery. The Rotary Club of Fort Myers South is providing volunteers to help with digging and planting.
“Since these species are native, many of these trees may have been on the property originally,” said Debbie Hughes, Horticulture Director at the Estates. “Most are fast growing and will start providing shade sooner than slower-growing specimens would.”
