Free Admission for Dads on Father’s Day at Edison and Ford Winter Estates
FORT MYERS, Fla. (June 11, 2019) — To celebrate Father’s Day on June 16, dads are invited to visit Edison and Ford Winter
Estates for free. This is a great way for families to enjoy the day with their fathers or spouses. Free admission includes a self-guided audio tour of the homes, laboratory, a 15,000-square-foot inventions museum and more than 20 acres of botanical gardens.
Dads, moms and children can all have fun inventing in the Smithsonian Spark!Lab, an exhibit in the museum with five hands-on activity stations. The activities allow for groups and families, so parents and grandparents can enjoy the activities along with their children and grandchildren. Edison Ford is one of only nine museums across the country to have a Smithsonian Spark!Lab.
Trees and plants bloom at different times of the year throughout the gardens. The Plumeria, Angel’s Trumpet and Ylang Ylang tree are just some of the beautiful specimens that are currently blooming around the site. A highlight is the award-winning Moonlight Garden with sweetly-scented white flowers and reflecting pool. Orchids, Mina Edison’s favorite flower, are also blooming.
At the end of a tour, families can stop in the Ford Cottage Shoppe for some ice cream or a cool beverage to savor while enjoying a relaxing view of the river. The Shoppe, along with the Museum Store and Edison Ford Shoppe at Bell Tower Shops offer many unique gift items, including books, t-shirts, artwork and Florida-inspired decorations. For the dad with a green thumb, the Garden Shoppe has many varieties of plants and trees available for sale.
The entire site is open from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., seven days a week.
