Edison and Ford Winter Estates Open Labor Day
FORT MYERS, Fla. (August 17, 2020) — Edison and Ford Winter Estates and the Garden Shoppe will be open on Labor Day from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Visitors may meander at their own pace during a Self-Guided Tour, using the new narrated app and a site map, or take a Guided Tour with a historian for a more personalized experience. The Museum Store and Ford Cottage Shoppe will also be open and are stocked with unique gift and souvenir items.

During tours, visitors get to see the historic homes of Thomas Edison and Henry Ford, the swimming pool, Moonlight Garden, study, caretaker’s houses, the 15,000-square-foot inventions museum, the botanic research laboratory (a National Historic Chemical Landmark), and hundreds of trees and plants from all around the world on more than 20 acres of botanical gardens. Guided Tours are limited to 10 people in each group and masks are required.
The Garden Shoppe offers an outdoor shopping area, where guests can purchase many different kinds of plants, including flowering shrubs, butterfly plants, herbs, fruit trees, Florida natives and rare exotics. Ceramic flower pots, water fountains, wind chimes and garden art items are also available.
The Museum Store and Ford Cottage Shoppe are stocked with unique gift items and souvenirs, including books, clothing, kitchenware, kid’s games and science kits, artwork from local artists, and garden art. There are also many Thomas Edison and Henry Ford signature souvenir items, such as replica light bulbs and model Mustang cars.
The organization is taking precautions to protect visitors and employees. Following guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control, staff are wearing protective masks and undergo daily temperature checks, surfaces are cleaned and sanitized daily, hand sanitizer stations are available, and plastic shields have been installed at the ticket counter. All visitors are asked to practice social distancing. Masks are required in indoor spaces and on guided tours or when social distancing is not possible.
