Class on Fragrant Plants for Florida Gardens Offered at Edison and Ford Winter Estates
FORT MYERS, Fla. (April 4, 2024) — Edison and Ford Winter Estates (EFWE) will hold a class on scented plants, “The Fragrant Garden,” on Tuesday, April 23 at 1:30 p.m. and Saturday, April 27 at 10 a.m. The class will cover many aromatic plants that thrive in Florida and how to add them to a garden.
“Scented plants can enhance gardens with olfactory bouquets, all season long,” said Karen Maxwell, Horticulture Specialist and Programs Coordinator at EFWE. “We’ll cover how to create an enchanting evening garden, attract new pollinators, and fill the air with sweet whiffs.”

that have scented flowers. The role of pollinators will also be discussed, and participants will learn how to select the best plants for their growing conditions. The last half hour of the class will include a question-and-answer session and a tour of the Moonlight Garden.
At the end of the in-class presentation, participants will be introduced to aromatherapy, including the meaning, purpose and value of fragrances that are often found in many rare tropical flowers at EFWE. Participants will be able to prepare their own signature room or linen scent while in class. A copy of the material covered, reference sources, and a coupon for 20% off plants from the Garden Shoppe will be provided.
Registration is required online at EdisonFord.org. The class will be held in the Fort Myers-Lee County Garden Council building (the entrance is on Larchmont Avenue, across from the Estates’ overflow parking lots). Participants should wear sunscreen, comfortable shoes and a hat. Class fee is $45 for Edison Ford members and $60 for non-members.
