Join Dr. Robert Apple for a presentation on the 1917 Conquest of Florida Festival, which was Fort Myers’ first major multi-day festival put on to attract winter visitors. The festival’s final day featured an event that was novel for the time– a parade of decorated cars. The presentation will also discuss the 1914 Model-T Tangley Calliaphone Car, which, while not being present for the 1917 Conquest of Florida car parade, embodies the spirit of that event, and features a musical instrument, the Tangley Calliaphone– popular at such events during the 1910s.
